Pottery membership in Markham: is open studio right for you?
Share
Once you have the basics, the best way to get better at pottery is simple: more hours at the wheel. That is what an open studio membership gives you.
What the OOTB Markham membership includes
The membership is $320 a month at 145 Royal Crest Court, Unit 31, Markham and includes:
- Unlimited open studio time
- Shimpo VL Lite wheels and Skutt kiln firing
- Shared tools, brushes, glazes and underglazes
- Your own table and storage shelf
- A welcome gift of 5 kg of clay
There is a $100 refundable deposit, returned when your membership ends and your key and shelf are returned.
Is membership right for you?
Membership is a great fit if you:
- Can centre clay and throw a basic cylinder on your own
- Want to practise more than once a week
- Like working alongside other potters
If you are still learning the basics, start with the 4 class course ($300) or the 8 class course ($580), then move to membership.
The open studio etiquette
- Clean as you go and return shared tools.
- Label your work so it doesn't get cleared.
- The kiln room is staff only, and only approved firings go in.
- Keep food and drinks away from wheels and glazes.
Questions we get asked
How often should I come to make membership worth it?
If you would come more than once or twice a week, unlimited access quickly beats paying per session.
Is there a minimum skill level?
Membership has no formal test, but you will get the most out of it once you can work on the wheel without an instructor.
